Description |
A purple and white signature quilt. The quilt has alternating purple and white square blocks. There are six across the top and 7 along the side making a total of 42 blocks on the quilt. The square blocks have circular shapes in the corners. The white areas of the circle have light purple stitching for the signatures. The purple part of the circle shape have white stitching for the signatures. The outer edge has triangle shape cut outs creating a scalloped edge. The triangle shapes also alternate between white and purple. |
Provenance |
It is not known who made this quilt, but it features 168 signatures of residents from the north end of Chesley, as well as local businessmen. Signatures were placed on for 25 cents, and then the quilt was auctioned off to raise funds during the Second World War. It was purchased by John Hetherington, as a gift for his wife Lillian, whose name is on the quilt. |
