Description |
There are ten luncheon plates. The plates are a medium size. These plates are done in "The Excelsior" pattern. The pattern consists of a metallic gold outline, with a layer of brownish/gold underneath. Below is a thin line of burgundy followed by section of light green with a double burgundy line. At the bottom of the pattern is a series of roses. The roses are in a series of two small roses and greenery, followed by a single large rose and greenery, and then a repeat of the double rose. At the end of the pattern is a large rose that sticks up into the light green area of the pattern. At the middle of the plate is the maker's mark. The maker's mark are green in colour and have "ENGLAND" underlined with "W.H. GRINDLEY & CO." underneath. The words are circled within a wreath of laurels with an opening at the top. Several of the plates have numbers stamped into the plate before the glaze was applied. The plates are labelled as follows a, b, and c: "8.19" and "95"; d: "7.19" and "[?]1"; e: "81" and "8"; f: "51" and "65"; g: "519" and "55"; h: "7.19" and "81"; i: "7.29" and "81"; j: "8" and "[?]". All of the plates also have metallic gold spots on the bottom. |

The dishes were given as gifts to Nellie and Herman Rowe of Allenford on the occasion of their wedding. Nellie and Herman got married on November 19, 1919. |
