Description |
First Nations quill box. Body of box is round and made of birch bark with dried grass (sweetgrass?) at the top and bottom edges. Grass is sewn to bark with black thread. Body of box is decorated with brown and white porcupine quills, grouped so as to make brown areas, creating an alternating pattern of brown spots at either the top of bottom of the body. Lid is round in shape and made of birch bark. The edge is lined with grass that is attached by black thread. In the centre of the lid is a proper left facing hawk/eagle of quills. Quills and brown and white coloured and are again grouped to give the bird colouring at the head, top of the wings and the top of the tail. |
