Description |
One silver cup trophy. Trophy is urn-shaped, with a round body, tapered stem, and no handles. It has a lid with a 3-dimensional palmette ornament on top, and a round silver base which has become detached from the stem. The rim of the cup is decorated with a 2cm band of embossed floral scrollwork. More scroll designs are engraved on the sides of the cup. The front of the cup is engraved with the inscription: "THE LUCKNOW -- CALEDONIAN SOCIETY -- CHALLENGE CUP -- WON BY -- D. GAUNT -- SEPT 1882". In the middle of this inscription there is an image of a clan crest. The crest features a thistle in the centre, encircled by a strap and buckle, inscribed with the motto: "NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSET". The back of the cup has an engraved depiction of 3 figures: The central figure is depicted wearing a kilt and knee socks, swinging a hammer over his head, likely representing the Hammer Throw competition. To the left, a figure is a kilt is depicted playing the bagpipes, and to the right, a figure in pants is depicted as running or jumping. |
