Description |
A metal safe painted black. The safe is rectangular in shape and has a top hinged lid. The entire safe is painted black with white text on the front and back. The top lid has a spindle type of handle that rotates to move the lock bar in place. Once the lock bar is rotated, the lid cannot be lifted. There is a small bronze coloured key lock at the front top edge of the box. The white text on the front and back of the safe is the same and reads "National Canadian Express". The sides of the safe have triangular shaped handles. Near the base of the box there is numbers that reads "422". The inside of the lid also has "422" stamped in white. |
Provenance |
The lockbox safe belonged to James Gardner who was a resident of Lucknow and worked for the Canadian National Railroad for approximately 40 years. Gardner mostly worked on the Kincardine to Stratford line as a baggageman. The lockbox safe would have been used to store valuables while in transit. Later, Gardner used the lockbox to store his coin collection. |
