One fan pattern quilt. Background of quilt top is white cotton with green edging at the border. Each fan has a a green bottom and various patterned cotton "blades". The top, between the fans has a arabesque/fleur-de-lis pattern. The back is white cotton. |

Fan patterns in quilting gained popularity in the 1880s and regained popularity again with the Colonial Revival movement. This particular pattern, published by popular quilt designer Ruby Short McKim in 1931 as Grandmother's Fan, was also known as Formosa Fan by Nancy Cabot, the 1930s Needlework Editor and Columnist of the Chicago Tribune. This quilt was designed by Helen Pfohl and made by Mrs. Elizabeth Pfohl of Carrick Township |
