Description |
Part A: A set of three metal bells attached by a thin metal strap. The bells are two different sizes, with the two shorter bells on the outside and the taller bell in the center. The bells are attached to the metal strap between the neck and head of the bell. There are three clappers secured to the inside of the bells. The clappers are secured two the bell with 'S' hooks that are attached to a metal triangle that has three metal loops, one on each point. The face of the triangle is riveted to the top of the bell. The clappers are metal balls with a loop on top. A side bell is missing a clapper and has only half of the 'S' hook. The middle bell is missing two of the original clappers and metal nuts have been put in their place. The other side bell is missing all three of the original clappers. One of the clappers has been replaced with a nut, while the other was replaced with a bolt and nut. The third clapper is completely gone, as is half of the 'S' hook. There are faint traces of silver paint left on some of the bells. Part B: A set of three metal bells attached by a thin metal strap. The replacement clappers are a large nut and a bolt with a nut. The middle bell is missing all three of the original clappers. Two of the clappers have been replaced with nuts, while the other was replaced with a circular piece of metal. The other side bell only has two remaining clappers, one original and one that has been replaced by a bolt. The metal loop attached to the triangle has broken. There are faint traces of silver paint left on some of the bells. |

The sleigh bells belonged to Stuart Byers. He lived in Tara. These bells were put on cutters. Due to the quietness of cutters, bells were put on them so that others could hear them coming. This was especially important when sharing pathways. |
