Description |
One Police Exemplary Service Medal and case. The medal is circular and made from silver-coloured metal. On the front of the medal, the Scales of Justice are embossed in the centre, superimposed on a stylized maple leaf, and circumscribed with "EXEMPLARY SERVICE -- SERVICES DISTINGUÉS". Embossed on the reverse is the Royal Cipher: "EiiR" beneath a crown. The medal is suspended from a ribbon of five equal, vertical stripes: two yellow and three blue. On the ribbon there is silver bar embossed with a stylized maple leaf. The rectangular, hinged case is made from black Leatherette, with a gold lion stamped on the lid. It is lined with cream-coloured satin. The medal sits on a pad of plum-coloured velvet. Inside the lid of the case there is a maker's mark for "RIDEAU ORDERS, DECORATIONS -- AND MEDALS INC". |
Provenance |
In 1991, this medal was awarded to Burrell Gailing (1938-2021), former Chief of Walkerton Police Force. The bar on the ribbon was awarded to him in 1998. Awarded by the Governor General of Canada, the Police Exemplary Service Medal recognizes police officers who have served in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency. Recipients must have completed 20 years of full-time service with one or more recognized Canadian police forces. A bar may be awarded to a recipient of the Medal for each additional 10-year period of full-time service with one or more Canadian police forces. |
