Description |
A Victory Medal. The Medal is round in shape and made from copper and lacquered bronze. On the obverse is winged Victory standing with her left arm outstretched, while the other hand is holding a palm branch. On the reverse is "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919". Stamped around the outer edge is "652107 PTE. J.W. MC VEETY 47-CAN INF." At the top of the medal is a small loop through which the ribbon is strung. The ribbon is made of grosgrain and has nine stripes; red in the centre then on either side moving out is yellow, green, blue and violet. |
Provenance |
The medal was awarded to Private John Wallace McVeety of the 47th Canadian Infantry for his efforts in the First World War. McVeety was also ranked a Private with the 160th Bruce Battalion. |
