Description |
One hand-woven coverlet. Coverlet is red-orange in colour for most of the design with a cream background. The coverlet is a large square coverlet, with a long fringe around the perimeter. The red design consists of a large centre-square with a sun-burst surrounded by large flowers (roses?) inside. The next consecutive square is filled with a scalloped pattern, followed by the outer-most section of the coverlet, which contains an elaborate pattern of birds, leaves and berries. Centralized on each of the four outermost sides is a building, very much resembling St. Peter's Basilica. In between each square is a stylized border, different with each square. This is followed by a solid border and then the fringe, which begins as a solid orange and then fades to white at the tips. The fringe occurs on three sides, the third side is plain, with an inscription that reads in a mirrored image, emanating from the centre. It says "Made for Karalina Ahrens." In between each square is a stylized border, different with each square. |
