Description |
A badge for the RCNVR (Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve). The badge is navy blue with a red laurel leaves, gold crown and white anchor with writing below it. The crown is at the top with the anchor below it. The laurel leaves are on both sides of the anchor. There is a banner at the bottom that reads "RCNVR". |

The military badge belonged to Norman Mitchinson who was the Leading Seaman on the H.M.C.S. Skeena during the Second World War. Norman was one of only a few Canadians to have participated in six major invasions of the Second World War: Dieppe, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, D-Day (Normandy) and Southern France. He was mentioned in Dispatches for actions at the Combined Operations Raid on Dieppe. He was also presented to HRH Queen Elizabeth and was one of the first recipients of the Ontario Medal of Good Citizenship. |
