Description |
A handsewn quilt in a honeycomb pattern. The quilt has a main white background with several hexagon shapes throughout. The honeycombs consists of several different fabric types and patterns to create smaller hexagon shapes. There are 37 hexagons to create a larger overall hexagon shape. The quilted hexagons have a puffed shape. The back of the quilt is plain white cotton where the outline of the hexagon shapes can be seen. |
Provenance |
The quilt was made by Roxy Young and her mother Margaret Kerry in 1936. The wool used for the inner batten was given to Roxy by her neighbour Bill Taylor of Pinkerton. Roxy carded the wool by hand and handstiched the top area of the quilt. Roxy lived in the Cargill area and was a member of the Eden Grove/Cargill Women's Institute. The quilt is titled "Grandmother's Flower Garden". |
