Description |
A white cotton quilt with various images in square blocks. The quilt has a royal blue border around the edge and the same colour makes up the 50 square blocks. The blocks have a mix of embroidery or hand painted imagery and text. The centre of the quilt has a large emblem that represents the group who made it. The emblem is oval in shape and has a gold border with a blue background. There are images in each section that is divided by a red 'X' shape. The images are of a white dove, green red and orange flowers, a horseshoe and 'A', and a book. There is blue text inside the gold border that reads "The United Church of Canada - L'Eglise Unie du Canada - Ut Omnes Unum Sint" with red maple leaves between the text. The back of the quilt is plain white cotton. |
Provenance |
The quilt was made by the Bruce Presbyterial United Church Women. Each quilt block was made by members of each area group to tell the history of the organization. There were 50 groups that contributed to the quilt. The centre is the emblem and insignia that represents the organization. |
