Description |
A rectangular shaped tin lantern. The lantern has four sides to create a box with a square shaped slot in the front section. The slot has a frame with an open end where glass could be inserted as a cover. Inside the lantern there is a circular shape holder for a candle. The holder sits at the bottom of the base. The top of the lantern has two curved pieces that act as a handle. There is a smaller curved piece in the centre with a larger curved piece that goes over it. There is visible soldered lines on each seam. The bottom of the lantern base has one side that has several holes punched through it. |

The lantern was used on the first train into Kincardine, Ontario. The conductor, John Quirk, was well known within the community for his several years working with the Grand Trunk Railway on the Wellington Grey & Bruce Railway. |
