Provenance |
The fan belonged to Angelique Longe who was born in 1844 of Métis descent. Annie is credited as being the first female child born in Saugeen. Her father, Joseph Longe Jr., came to the Lake Huron area in the early 1820s and was a fur trader along the Lake Huron shoreline. According to the 1851 census, the Longe family had 27 acres in Hay Township, Huron County. By 1861, the Longe family had moved permanently to Southampton, Ontario. |
