Description |
Tin clown coin bank, consisting of the clown's upper torso and head. Clown has orange hair outlined in a thin red line. The face is off-white wti ha large red circle in the middle of the forehead. Large brown triangular shaped eyebrows, blue eyes with long eyelashes. Red arrow-shaped marks on the cheeks, red nose, and large red mouth. The ears on the on the side outlined in black with the details of the ears in red. Neck ruffle is yellow with red and yellow lines. Torso is bluce with green, yellow, and red circles. There is a protruding seam connecting the front and back halves of the clown. In the centre of the clown's chest is a large red circle with a protruding red lever. The inside of the circle reads in yellow "Press" with a yellow arrow underneath. When the red lever is pressed down a red tongue comes out of the mouth and is shaped to fit a coin. On the back of the clown there is a maker's mark "J. Chein & Co. Made in U.S.A.". On the bottom in a off-white yellow door which allows one to remove the coins, it requires a key to open it. |

Was used by Dorothy Lamont (nee MacEachern) who was born in Kitchener in 1926, and became a teacher at Saugeen District High School in Port Elgin. J. Chein & Co. operated in New York City and was well-known for making tin toys and banks. |
