Description |
One Speaker's chair. It is a large armchair with a light walnut brown stain wood frame. Each of the four legs are carved and are X-shaped which shows on the sides. The bottom of the legs have claw shaped casters with small wheels below. The chair has a pointed high back with carved designs. The arms are curved with five spindles at each side. The entire seat and back of the chair is a green/black padded leather. |
Provenance |
This chair was the seat of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in the Ontario Legislature at Queen's Park. It was brought to the Museum on behalf of the Mary (May) Sinclair Estate. According to family lore, the chair was given to Sinclair upon his retirement from the legislature. Sinclair was the elected M.P.P. for the Bruce North riding from 1867 to 1883. |
