Description |
A case in which the keyboard is held is made of wood and is rectangular in shape. The lid is flat and has a 90 degree lip that comes down the front of the case. Also on the front of the case are three round wooden knobs. Lid is fastened by two brass hinges. It is a 3 octave keyboard. At the base of the keys there is a strip of red felt. At the back of the keyboard there are two metal clasps that fasten the keyboard down. Also attached to the back of the keyboard is a leather pull string that allows one to lift the keyboard. Beneath the keyboard is the rest of the organ mechanism. Case holding the keyboard is attached to a stylized turned wooden post, which in turn is attached to the centre of a rectangular base. On either side of the wooden post there is a foot bellow. Each bellow is square in shape and is covered with a red carpet. Bellows are made of brown leather. Attached to the base are four stylized wooden feet. |

Provenance |
The melodeon was used and owned by the Captain Alfred Brunton, of Arran Township, as a companion when we was at sea. When he died in 1930, the organ was then owned by Elizabeth Brunton. Upon Elizabeth's death, the organ was then given to Beatrice Fenton (nee Brunton), of Concession 2 Arran Township. When Beatrice died in 1970, the organ was given to her daughter, Grace. |
