Description |
A green wool military uniform from the First World War. The uniform consists of a tunic (a) and matching pants (b). The tunic has five buttons down the front. The collar is decorated with "C1" collar badges. The tunic has two breast pockets and two hip pockets with brass buttons. There are plain green epaulets at the shoulder that fasten with a single brass button. Each shoulder has a brass rectangular "CANADA" button. The pants are made of a dark green wool, and are heavily creased down the centre of the pant legs. The fly is button with five metal painted dark brown buttons. There are light green belt loops around the waist. Front pockets at waist. Around the inner waist are five metal buttons - presumably to fasten to tunic. Written inside the waist band in blue ink is "W.H. McCurdy". Pant legs are short and taper in towards the ankle. At the bottom of the leg is a laced section with metal eyelets. |

The uniform belonged to Corporal William Henry McCurdy of Chesley, Ontario. He was in the 160th Bruce Battalion and transferred to 1st Battalion. He was seriously wounded at the battle of Arras on Aug. 30th, 1918. He returned home in January,1919. |
