Description |
One handmade wooden cradle. The cradle is rectangular in shape with a deep bed and has four sides. The back of the cradle is higher than the rest of the sides with a curve upper edge. The top middle of the cradle in the centre has a heart shape cut out. The end of the cradle has a small indent on the top edge. The cradle is supported on rockers that move side to side. On the bottom of the cradle there is a solid wood panel that runs vertically to support it. There is 'Shannon Luik" written in pen on the side. The inside of the cradle has exposed knots in the wood near the base of the bed in the corners. The cradle looks to be made from cedar due to the knots and texture in the wood. The wood is stained and varnished. |
Provenance |
The cradle was made by Gilbert Steele McLaughlin in 1902 for his daughter Olive Christine. It was later slept in by his second daughter Ethel Adelaide (b.1906). The cradle wwas passed down through the family for 3 more generations. |
