Description |
One British Empire Medal. There is a raised image of a woman sitting with silver circular medal the sun above her head. Above her there is raised letters with the inscription of "FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE". The back has an image of four lions and a crown at the top. There are initials in the middle "GRI" and in raised letters "INSTITUTED BY KING GEORGE V". The medal is held on by a red ribbon with white stripe on the outer edge. The ribbon is looped through the clasp on top. |

Agnes assisted Catherine McNabb as assistant weather observer for the Dominion Meteorological Bureau, commencing in about 1876 when she was about 15 years of age. When Catherine died in 1917, Agnes was appointed weather observer at Southampton. She worked at that job for 75 years. She received the British Empire Medal for her years of continuous service in 1946. |
