This jacket is part of the dress uniform for First World War Canadian Nursing Sisters. The jacket is made of navy blue wool twill, with red cuffs and a red collar. It is double-breasted with two rows of 6 brass buttons up the front, which are embossed with the Canadian Medical Corps insignia. Each shoulder has a strap which fastens near the collar with another brass button. The shoulder straps each have two "tria juncta in uno" badges. The high, standing collar has gold cording around the edge and is pinned with a 2 brass badges for the Canadian Medical Corps. Each badge features a depiction of a snake wrapped around a staff (known as the "Rod of Asclepius"), topped with a crown and surrounded by a wreath of maple leaves. The hem of the jacket hits just above the hip, and the waist is cinched with an attached belt of the same material, with a brass buckle. The centre of the buckle is embossed with an image of a lion standing on top of a crown, encircled by a border of laurel leaves. This centre part is flanked on either side by lugs decorated with acanthus leaves and acorns. |
