Description |
A wooden witness stand. The stand has 5 sides and an open back area with raised floor base. The front is flat with two angled sections beside it. The sides of the stand are also flat. Each section has a window area cut out of the wood and is covered by a flat panel that has grooved vertical stripes. One of the front panels is plain. The top of the stand has a flat top that mimics the same angles of the panels. The base of the stand also keeps the same shape and is propped up on a base. The base has a slight bevelled edge and is two toned coloured and has grooved lines carved out in the centre areas. The back of the stand is open with a single step up to the flat grey wood base. The front of the floor has a curved wood section that supports the panels. |
Provenance |
The witness stand was used for Travelling Court that came through Bruce County. The stand is noted to be made by Steven Brothers in Chesley, Ontario in 1893. The Travelling Court system was used so jurors and witnesses wouldn't have to travel great distances. |
