Description |
Men's full length winter coat. Coat is made from 100% alpaca and is dark brown in colour with a medium length shag. Coat is lined with a chocolate brown satin lining. Collar is v-neck with wide lapels. Running down the front are two columns of three round black plastic buttons. There is a set of green cotton cord loops to secure around the buttons on the proper left. There is also a button behind the collar in the proper right side, and a loop to secure on the proper left side. Sleeves are full and wide. On each side is a small rectangular pocket which is covered by a flap. Around the waist at the back there is a wide belt. The bottom of the coat has a slit. There is an inside breast pocket on the proper right. At the neck is the maker's tag. Tag is rectangular in shape and dark like the coat liner. In gold coloured thread is "A CA-VEL FABRIC MADE FROM GENUINE IMPORTED ALPACA". |

Coat was originally owned by John Smeltzer, who was born in Huron Township in 1871. The coat was passed down through the family and was last worn by the donor's father, Arthur Smeltzer, of Huron Township. |
