Description |
Phonograph is in a finished wooden case with wide trim along bottom edge. Front is has a metallic grille that is painted faux wood and has long narrow vertical grilles on piece. Behind grille a large black metallic horn is visible. There is a metallic handle on proper right with black finished wooden know. Lid is hinged at rear of phonograph and is made of same finished wood and is narrower at top. When lid is opened, "EDISON" can be seen on inner rear of lid in gold lettering. Lid has a metallic proper on inner proper left. Phonograph is comprised of a metallic needle mounted on a large black arm at rear. A lever in upper base stops or starts a large metallic cylinder from playing or stopping. There is a metallic cylinder below needle that the Edison cylinders rest on when in use. On needle arm is a shiny metallic lever that raises or lowers the needle onto cylinder. Cylinder is driven by large metal wheel that is attached to handle on proper right of phonograph. |
Provenance |
Amberolas, machines made to accommodate blue amberol phonograph cylinders were introduced in 1913. This amberola was found unnumbered in Artifact Storage. It could not be matched to the accession register. The owner and used of the machine is unknown at this time. |
