Description |
One hand-quilted Dresden plate pattern quilt. Quilt top has a white cotton background with twelve "plates. Centre of plates are white with a diamond quilted in, and each plate has 18 sections. The sections are made up of a variety of different patterned cottons. The top and back are quilted together in a checkerboard pattern. |
Provenance |
At the beginning of the 20th century, spawning from the Arts & Crafts Movement and the Colonial Revival, new patterns were created by commercial companies. The Dresden Plate, one of the most recognizable quilt patterns today, is one of those patterns. Other patterns born at this time include Double Wedding Ring and Grandmother's Flower Garden. |
