Stencil |
Description |
One metal stencil. Stencil is made of metal and is rectangular in shape. The top proper left and bottom proper left corners are folded over onto themselves. Across the front, around the letters, is blue paint. Letters in stencil spell out "DOBSON & McLEOD SOUTHAMPTON". Sections of the stencil are missing, obscuring some of the lettering. |
Provenance |
This stencil was used by Robert Dobson and Captain John McLeod to mark their fish boxes. Together they ran the R.H. Dobson, and were one of the largest fishing operations in Southampton. Dobson and McLeod formed a partnership in the late 1800s and dissolved in in 1903. |
