Description |
A wooden plaque with copper plates attached. The plaque is a crest shape with two points at the top corners, rounded edges and a single point at the bottom. There is a eyelet hook in the top middle. The front of the plaque has three copper plates attached by small finishing nails. The top plate is a banner shape with text that reads "Southampton". The centre has a crest shape plate with an image of a ship in the centre with leaves in the top corners. Below the ship is a portrait of a man in an oval shape with text on either side. The left side reads "England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty" and the right reads "Admiral Lord Nelson Oct. 21st 1805". Below the portrait is more text that reads "Made of Copper from HMS Victory & Foudroyant. Presented by Lord Strathcona & Mount Royal GCMG Through British & Foreign Sailor Society for Canadian Schools 1907 E.R. VII". The bottom has a slotted plate with text on the top that reads "Warden of the Shield for this Year" and the bottom "Palmam Qui Meruit Ferat". The back of the plaque is plain with some paper remnants. |
