Description |
Three Police Exemplary Service Ribbons and one case. Ribbons have five equal, vertical stripes: two yellow and three blue. All three ribbons are the same width, but two are short and one is long. The two short ribbons have a stylized maple leaf in the centre, made of silver metal. The longer ribbon has a silver metal bar embossed with a stylized maple leaf. The rectangular, hinged case is made from black Leatherette, with a gold lion stamped on the lid. It is lined with cream-coloured satin. The ribbons sit on a pad of plum-coloured velvet. The two shorter ribbons are held in place by thin, black elastic straps. The longer ribbon is woven into two horizontal slots in the velvet pad, with excess length folded up behind the pad. |
Provenance |
In 1991, these service ribbons were awarded to Burrell Gailing (1938-2021), former Chief of Walkerton Police Force. The bar on the ribbon was awarded to him in 1998. Awarded by the Governor General of Canada, the Police Exemplary Service Medal recognizes police officers who have served in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency. Recipients must have completed 20 years of full-time service with one or more recognized Canadian police forces. A bar may be awarded to a recipient of the Medal for each additional 10-year period of full-time service with one or more Canadian police forces. |
