Description |
A brown felt crest with painted imagery and words for the 160th Bruce Battalion. The crest is in the shape of a shield and has a metal rod at the top for support. The back of the rod has a gold hook to hang the crest. The crest front is painted with a maple leaf border around the outer edge in green, yellow and white. The inside has a large green maple leaf with a red crown and oval shape that reads "BRUCE". Below that there is a white banner that reads "Canada Overseas". The base of the green maple leaf has "160" in yellow. The bottom of the crest has who flags on gold poles that are intertwined. There is a Union Jack flag on the left and a red Ontario flag on the right. The flags are tied together near the bottom. Above the flags reads "Canada" in white. |
Provenance |
The donor remembers finding the crest in the Glammis Presbyterian Church in the late 1950s. It was in some cupboards that were being replaced and the contents were to be thrown out as no one expressed any interest in them. It likely came from John Thompson who was in the 160th Bruce Battalion. The Thompson family was heavily involved in the church in the Board of Managers, Women's Missionary Society, Sunday School teachers, cleaning and upkeep, etc. John "Jack" Thompson (1895-1969) was born just north of Glammis at Lot 35 Conc.3, Bruce Township. |
