Description |
A silver cup. The main body has a cylindrical shape with several raised and engraved images and text. The cup has a rim along the bottom edge and top edge with a small decorative 'C' shape handle on the side. The images on the front of the cup show 3 children and 3 dogs playing in the landscape. There is text engraved on the front reading "Canadian Home Journal - 1915 - Baby Contest - Morris Reid". The bottom of the cup has a small maker's stamp reading "Forbes - Plate Warranted". |

The cup was awarded to Morris Reid of Reid's Corners in Huron Township as part of the Better Canadian Babies contest by the Canadian Home Journal. Morris was born in 1913 and was 2 years old when the prize was given to him. The contest was open to any baby living in Canada under the age of three years. The first annual contest awarded 44 babies throughout Canada. The contest was to promote health and well being of children. After a doctor examination, the child was awarded a prize who showed the best proportionate development both physically and mentally. |
