Description |
One wedding dress consisting of a dress and removable train. Part A: Dress is made of off-white/ivory satin with lace overlays. Neckline is square. Bodice is covered with a heavy lace overlay that drapes over the shoulders. sleeves are half length and have a floral pattern embroidered at the edge. Dress tapers in at natural waist and flares back out for the skirt, which is full length. At the waist is a satin belt that fastens with a snap. At point of snap is a lace flower. On each side down the back sides of the skirt is a lace overlay that comes to a point. Bottom of skirt is heavily laced, and forms a train at the back. Part B: Removable train. Train is made from the same material as the dress and features the same heavy lace overlay, and stitched floral pattern. Train is rectangular in shape and attaches to the back of the skirt with eight snaps. |

Worn by Melissa Beatrice Tretheway, known as Millie, when she married Herbert T. Gilpin of Wiarton October 16, 1912. At the time of their wedding Herbert is listed as a manufacturer. The wedding took place at the home of the bride's parents in Toronto. |
