Description |
A child's gas mask. The mask has a fabric face with plastic eye view and a black metal canister to hold the filter. The fabric is a beige cotton/canvas material with a black rubberized lining on the inside. There are three khaki green coloured fabric straps that connect to the main face area. There is a black metal buckle to hold the straps at the back of the head area. The base of the mask has a tubular shaped metal canister. The end of the canister has several holes with a silver wire mesh visible. There is white text on the canister reading " 30-7-42". There is handwriting above the canister reading "Julie Scruton". The fabric at the back has black text stamped reading "Small - D.R/C- 8-42" with a C Broad Arrow stamp beside it. |
Provenance |
The gas mask was issued to the donor when living in British Columbia as a child. The donor moved to Port Elgin in the 1960's and operated a dance school and was involved with the Girl Guides. The donor kept the mask her entire life. |
