The Dorans built boats in the winter, both for their own use and to sell. At Sauble, they rented out rowboats, which Hartley and his brothers looked after. At the Southampton harbour, they had a shed where they sold fish (herring, trout and filleted whitefish). Besides the fishing business, Hartley also worked in the furniture factories. |
