He erected a sawmill and gristmill inWilliamsford. He was reeve of Sullivan Township for several years. He was also the first man to erect a sawmill and grist mill at Chesley, Ontario. In 1864, he as appointed Justice of the Peace, the first to hold that office in Chesley.

Places

Born in Scotland, he came to Canada as a child. He moved to Williamsford, Grey County in 1856, and later to Chesley, Bruce County, Ontario.
