Attended school in Teeswater and Walkerton before entering the University of Toronto from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1894 and a Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1897. He supplemented his university training with post-graduate work at Detroit, Michigan, Montreal and a year's study at Queen Charlotte Hospital in London, England. |

In 1905, M.H.'s father died and he continued the practice in Teeswater for more than 50 years. Throughout his career he delivered more than 2,000 children (many of them at home). He also succeeded his father as Coroner in Bruce County. Like his father, he was Medical Officer of Health for Culross Township and Teeswater. He served a term as President of Bruce Medical Society and was an active member of the Wingham District Medical Society. For more than 50 years, he was a loyal member of Teeswater Lodge A.F. & A.M. no. 276. |
