C. Alan Hobley was born in Barrie. During the First World War he served a brief term with the Royal Air Force (regimental number 272825) in 1918, before graduating at age 20 from the Ontario College of Pharmacy in 1920. After graduating he and his wife moved to Toronto, where he worked in drug stores. Hobley came to Walkerton in early 1928 and purchased the pharmacy then operated by Mel Grieg. Hobley operated the pharmacy until 1965 when his son Ross took over the business. After retirement, he and his wife travelled extensively and as a camera enthusiast created slide presentations of their travels. Hobley ran the camera department within the pharmacy for many years. |
