John served as a town councillor in 1948 and 1949 and was Mayor of Kincardine in 1954 and 1955. He also contributed to his community through service on the Board of Education, Library Board, Cemetery Commission, Public Utilities Commission, and Kincardine and District General Hospital Board. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, vice-president of the Rotary Club, charter member and director of the Georgian Bay Development Association and the Owen Sound Regional School of Nursing which formed in 1966. He contributed to the Kincardine United Church and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and member of Kincardine Men's Business Club. His life-long love was Scouting. He joined in 1914 and received numerous awards over the years for his contributions. During the Second World War, Reynolds served as a Flight-Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Air Force for 4.5 years. He acted as an intelligence officer with #6 Bomber Group and flew Halifax and Lancaster Bombers. |
