Gavin Semple migrated to Canada in 1907 from Scotland. He served as Station Master for the Canadian National Railways and served in that capacity in Cargill, Mildmay, Hanover and Port Elgin. While Gavin was a resident in Mildmay, he served as Councillor and he was instrumental in seeing the Mildmay Rotary Club formed as he was a charter member in 1943. He became the Club's second president. When Gavin retired to Port Elgin, he served on the town's council and was later made Reeve. Gavin also served on many church organizations and was a member of the United Church and the Masonic Lodge. |
