Description |
Queens Bush Rural Ministries began as "Bruce-Grey Rural Ministries" at its inaugural meeting on February 13, 1987 at Grace United Church, Hanover. At that time, the overall objective of the ministry was identified as: "to provide emotional and spiritual support to farm families facing crisis in these times of challenge for those in the industry of agriculture. In addition to providing counselling to farm families in a time of crisis or at a time preceding crisis, the ministry will make referrals to competent resource persons/agencies - resource persons having expertise in the areas of farm finance, legal matters, crop or commodity experience. Bruce-Grey Rural Ministries will focus its resources on helping troubled farm families in their struggle to stay on the farm. For those who are forced to leave for reasons of health, finances, or market conditions, this ministry will affirm them as persons and assure them that there is a life for them beyond farming. The objective of this ministry is to affirm the positive values of the rural lifestyle. This ministry would be an expression of caring by the churches and agencies that choose to participate by representation and in a financial way. The mission would be local in character as its intention is to serve those farm families seeking help within the areas of Bruce Presbytery of the United Church of Canada. An addition component of this ministry would be directed towards the continuing education for rural ministry of both clergy and laity."
